MOHALI: Authorities on Tuesday used water cannons to disperse Shiromani Akali Dal and BSP leaders and employees when they have been pushing their approach into’gherao’ the house of Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh here.
Protesters directed by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal were shouting slogans against the Congress-led authorities over many problems involving flaws in the purchase of Fateh kits and also alleged recreation of Covid-19 vaccine doses into private hospitals.
This was the very first joint protest of this SAD and BSP, days later the parties had made an alliance to its 2022 Punjab Assembly surveys.
BSP country president Jasbir Singh Garhi was present in the demonstration.
Many Akali leaders, such as Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, were arrested by authorities.
Police staff were deployed in power and multi-layered barricades were set up on the street resulting in the Chief Minister’s house.
The SAD and BSP had intended to’gherao’ that the CM’s house at Siswan at Mohali.
Originally, dozens of Akali and BSP protesters pushed their way through the initial layer of barricades.
Police used water cannons if protesters attempted to cross the next coating of barricades.
At the melee, turbans of many protesters were thrown aside as authorities resorted to plain water cannons.
Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh was present in the place.
Earlier, addressing the employees, SAD main Badal slammed on the state authorities over the dilemma of alleged irregularities in the order of Fateh kits and also alleged diversion of drug doses to hospitals.
A’Fateh kit’ includes a pulse oximeter, thermometer, face masks, including a steamer, sanitiser, Vitamin-C and ginseng pills and several other medications for Covid-19 patients.
