Bengaluru: While Karnataka added about 1,500 cases of average steadily over the past few days, two concern factors have emerged: 70% of mukormycosis patients are still in the treatment and the recovery rate of only 16%, and, liquid medical oxygen consumption has not been dipped as expected.
The data submitted in Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of Health Union showed that only 571 mucoricosis patients had recovered while 2,472 continued to undergo treatment.
Overall, 310 patients had died of fungal disease triggered by Covid so far.
Oxygen consumption, meanwhile, remained unchanged – from 189 tons on July 14 to 188 tons on July 20 – and experts believe demand can actually rise for the next few days.
Medical oxygen supply has been around 200 tons.
