Munda, Himanta unfurled a welfare project for tribes

Guwahati: In an effort to provide greater employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to tribes in the state, 400 van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVK), five food parks and seven eclavya housing school models will be arranged in Assam.
This was completed in the reviews of the tribal livelihood program by the Chairman of the Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma and Union Minister of Union Broads Arjun Munda here on Sunday.
Sarma, along with Munda, also reviewed other projects to be taken for the welfare and development of tribes during the meeting at the state guest house, Koinadhora.
MD Cooperative Marketing Development of the Indian Federation (Trifed) tribe, Pravir Krishna made a detailed presentation on ongoing programs and projects proposed to be implemented in the state.
The minister’s chairman urged that the necessary steps were brought to establish 400 Kendras in March next year.
Sarma said he would regularly review progress.
“The state government will buy VDVK products with minimum support prices to promote local resources, tribal skills and to expand the range of tribal products,” Sarma said.
The minister’s chairman also directed the department concerned to provide the land needed for the purpose of establishing seven more housing school Eklavya housing in Assam.
At present, the construction of five schools is taking place in the state.
Munda said the center had extended the support needed for the successful implementation of the scheme taken for the economic development of tribes.
He said the Prime Minister had given the top priority for the development of the Northeast region and therefore the ministry had adopted several initiatives to produce work and entrepreneurship among the tribal youth.
“The central government will establish several village models in Assam in the next five years,” he said.
The Union Minister also handed over to Sarma The Van Dhan National Award for Trissam.
Assam Panchayat and Minister of Rural Development Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora, Minister of Handloom and Textile UG Brahma, Environment and Parimal Forest Suklaabaya, Minister of Education Ranoj Pegu, Secretary of Head of Sinar, and other senior government officials attended the meeting.
