MySuru: K v Sampath Kumar, editor only Sanskrit only Sudharma for the past 31 years, died on Wednesday morning after a heart attack.
He is 64 years old.
Sudharma was founded by his father Kalaale Nadadur Varadaraja Iyengar, a famous Sanskrit scholar from Mysuru, in July 15.1970.
After his death in 1990, Sampath Kumar and his wife Vidushi Jayalakshmi K took over.
The newspaper has around 3,500 circulation with readers throughout the country.
They launched an online edition to ensure it reached readers around the world.
Sampath Kumar, born in Kalale Village near the city of Nanjangud, got a BCON and BL degree.
He studied Sanskrit at Maharaja’s Sanskrit College here to help his father carry the works related to Sanskrit, including the newspaper.
He introduced a desktop publishing in MySuru after launching a printing company in 1988.
He introduced the country’s first Sanskrit calendar in 2009.
He was also active in social services.
In 2020, he and Jayalaksi were respected with Padma Shri under the category of literature, education and journalism.
