Chandigarh: Politicians turned Cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu met with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi on Wednesday in the midst of the ongoing crisis at the Punjab Congress.
The meeting with Gandhis assumed the significance because the High Command party was working on a plan to resolve the crisis in the punjab unit.
The meeting was believed to have an attitude in Sidhu’s fate at the party.
Even though Sidhu had gone to Delhi from Patiala on Tuesday, Rahul told the media people that there was no meeting scheduled with Amritsar East MLA that day.
On Wednesday, Sidhu first met Priyanka in the morning and tweeted pictures with information: “Having a long meeting with @ Priyanka-Gandhi Ji.” The meeting was reported to last for three hours.
Then, he went to meet Rahul at night and the interaction lasted more than an hour.
The Chairman of the Punjab Minister Amarinder Singh is likely to be called to fulfill Puncak leadership before the new role for Sidhu was immediately announced, said the sources of the party.
So far, Amarinder has not met Rahul during the internal chaos that is ongoing in the Punjab agreement unit.
Sources added if Sidhu was not interested in taking the position of Deputy Minister’s Deputy Minister, he could be used as the president of the Punjab Congress.
But for this, the command of the high party must convince the Chair of the Minister of Amarinder Singh, who openly opposes the idea.
Announcement of Sidhu is likely to be made in one or two days, said the source of the party.
Previously, the party incharge for Punjab Affairs Harish Rawat said Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi would decide on a road map for the Punjab Congress, including changes in the cabinet and organizational structure, in the first week of July.
“Because he has a long meeting with the two leaders, he will also share his response about land reality in the state and how to prepare the next assortment,” said a party leader.

Previously, the Kharge Panel three members appointed by the party had recommended that Sidhu must be “accommodated” in front of the next assembly selection in the state.
