Most nominated for panel don’t know much about Kannada film industry: Fraternity members
The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting nominated 71 people as members of the advisory panel of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Bengaluru.
However, the decision has not gone well with prominent personas of Sandalwood.
There are numerous allegations coming from the film fraternity alleging that most of the members of the advisory panel are TV artistes and the remaining members are associated with the ruling party.
Several personalities in Sandalwood are of the opinion that most of the members nominated to the advisory panel are either immature or do not know much about the Kannada film industry.
“Their thought process about the Kannada movie industry is different.
I do not know how much they are aware of the industry.
Appointing TV artistes is okay if majority of people on the advisory panel are from the Kannada movie industry,’’ opined director Kavitha Lankesh.
Sandalwood Director KM Chaitanya, who made his debut with a box-office hit ‘Aa Dinagalu’, said that the government should not interfere with the nomination of people to the advisory panel of CBFC.
“I believe that members of the film industry should be appointing members to the advisory panel.
I want the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to prepare a list of qualified people from the Kannada film industry and submit it to the government for approval.
The government should give preference to people from different walks of life,’’ he said.

Expressing disappointment over the government’s decision, veteran director SV Rajendra Singh Babu said that it has become a habit for the ruling party, whichever political party in power, to accommodate its followers on the advisory panel of the CBFC.
“Most people nominated to the panel know nothing about the film board.
What they do is print visiting cards as soon as they are nominated to the panel.
What can we expect from these people who know nothing about making films? These are the people authorised to certify movies made by the State and national award winning directors,’’ he said.
National Film Award-winning filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli stated that the practice was to nominate veteran members of the film industry and journalists to the advisory panel.
“I am of the opinion that the Union Government should have followed the same method while nominating members to the advisory panel of the Censor Board of Film Certification, Bengaluru,’’ he said.
Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president DR Jairaj said that he had sent a representation to the Union Minister for Information and Publicity through the Karnataka Information and Public Relations Department to authorise the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to prepare the list of
nominees, but his efforts were in vain.
I am not happy with the list of people selected to the panel this year,’’ said Jairaj.
Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce president BM Krishne Gowda has criticised the selection of TV artistes to the advisory panel.
“I have been trying to get the details on the qualifications and background of the nominees.
How come the person responsible for the selection of these people could be so irresponsible? It seems the nominator is in a terrible hurry to reward them for their loyalty, friendship and service,’’ opines Krishne Gowda.
What does the advisory panel do
The Regional Censor Officer assigns four members of the advisory panel to certify one Kannada movie.
They are assigned on a rotation basis.
For example, if four movies are to be certified, 16 of these members will have to watch the four movies along with the Regional Censor Board officials.
