Chandigarh: Ending a long wait, captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday announced his party’s name as Punjab Lok Congress, added that party registration was awaiting approval with the Indian Election Commission (EC).
Amarinder said, because he had announced earlier that he would form his own party, his lawyer team was working on the process and applying for the Indian Election Commission for registration.
The Election Commission did not have objections to the proposed name, Punjab Lok Congress, he said.
About party symbols, Amarinder said, the electoral commission has given three symbols from which someone will be chosen.
He said his party had also sent three different symbols and the last symbol will be selected from the set of six symbols, three suggested by the electoral commission and three proposed by the party.
The party will be launched formally later.
Policies, programs, agendas and visions will be described at the launch of the party, Amarinder added.
Not the first time not the first time Amarinder will launch a new political front.
In 1984, he left Congress and joined sadly to protest the operation of the Indian Army at the Golden Temple.
Then, breaking away from being sad in 1992, Amarinder formed its own political group called SED (Panthic), which did not produce a lot of impact.
He then combined his political front with Congress when he rejoined the party in 1997.
Since then, Amarinder has been in Congress.
The last nails in Cong Coffin: Punjab BJPPunjab BJP on Tuesday said the resignation of captain Amarinder Singh from Congress was the last nail in the party coffin because he was one of the few leaders at a party that had secular credentials and stood on politics whenever the National Interest at stake.
Congress hasn’t learned from the past that Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar and Jagan Mohan Reddy defeated Congress when they stopped and drifted their political parties, said Secretary General of Subhash Sharma.
