Bengaluru: Shivajinagar residents at Karnataka Capital are said to face severe difficulties because of Namma Metro’s underground tunneling job.
On Wednesday, water flows to the ground floor of a three-story building in Shivaji Road in the area.
“The pulp leak occurs in one of the buildings in the Shivajinagar area, while tunneling below it.
The residents of the building were evacuated, and leakage was arrested by placing concrete on the floor of the house,” said Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Public Relations Officer BL Yeshwanth Chavan.
“As soon as Tunnel BORING MACHINE (TBM) passes through the building area, further investigation will be carried out and the grouting of cement from the floor will be taken to consolidate the land.
The residents of the house are very cooperative and allow us to take the necessary repair work,” Chavan added.
“As a practice, residents are offered alternative accommodation, but they decided to go to the nearest relative home.
The appropriate compensation will be paid by the contractor for the evacuation period.
Damage to the building will be repaired before the residents shift again,” Chavan said.
However, a resident said: “Most families are forced to live in unsafe buildings during this pandemic.
There are no alternative arrangements made by BMRCL to shift people to safer places.
We are not against the Metro project, but BMRCL must overcome the problem of people.
“The work is related to the Metro Shivajinagar-Tannery Road section.
In the past too, damage to the building and the road cave had been reported during tunneling work.
However, Nafeesesa Khan, Social activist, and Resident Shivajinagar, said: “Around 9pm, water began to flow in the building.
People panic and come out.
Previously, there were several examples of cracks that appeared in the building because of the metro work, but BMRCL did not Provide any compensation.
BMRCL must ensure the right rehabilitation of residents affected due to metro work.
