Chandigarh: In recognition of the achievement of the Chopra Neeraj (VSM), which has won the first Olympic gold medal in India in Athletics, Chairman of the Minister of Punjab captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday announced a special cash prize from Rs 2 Crore for the award winner 87.58 meters , Javelin throws to Tokyo.
The minister’s chairman said it was a proud moment for India and all Punjabi, since the family of Neeraj Chopra, a soldier of Indian soldiers who served, tracked his roots to Punjab.

He previously won a gold medal at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018 and was the current national record holder with a throw of 88.07 meters.
He also won a gold medal in the Junior World Championship and arranged a world U 20 record with a throw of 86.48 meters.
This is the second gold medal by an Indian in the Olympic Individual category after Abhinav Bindra, from Punjab, won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
