Chandigarh: The Punjab government has formed a special investigation team of three members (sitting) to investigate the murder of Lakhbir Singh on the Singhu border.
The government had acted on complaints submitted by the late sister, who alleged that he was locked up by some unknown people and taken to Singhu, where he was killed by several nihang on October 15 for alleged allegations.
On Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had summoned Lynching Lakhbir, a Dialit Sikh from Tarn Taran, the possibility of a conspiracy to defame farmers’ agitation.
The incident had started a political storm after photographs of one of the leaders of Nihang with the Union Minister N S Tomar appeared on social media.
Referring to the photos, said Randhawa, “this has caused doubts and sincere suspicions in the minds of people who need to be cleaned and the Punjab government will do everything to reach the root of conspiracy and expose and punish the perpetrators.” In accordance with the order issued by the DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, ADGP-Cum-Director, Investigation Bureau, Varinder Kumar will be the chair of sitting while digging, the range of Ferozepur, Inderbir Singh and SSP, Tarn Taran, Harvinder Singh will be a member.
Varinder has been allowed to choose to choose other police officers posted in the state for inquiry, according to requirements.
He has also been given the freedom to get support and help other wings / units of Punjab police.
