Shimla: Secretary AICC and former Minister Sudhir Sharma has questioned the hasty inauguration of the Dharamshala-Mcleodganj coast project by Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur.
He said that by inaugurating an incomplete Ropeway project, the lives of people threatened.
He said that the company’s engineer took care of the safety aspects had put a red sign on two rope points that carry the gondola, but the same thing was ignored.
He demanded the government to tell who had issued a technical permit and safety certificate before the inauguration.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on January 19 has inaugurated a 1.8 km ROPEWAY project between Dharamshala and McLeodganj which has the capacity to carry 1,000 people in one hour to one direction.
Travel time has also been cut because someone can finish the trip between Dharamshala to McLeodanj in 5 minutes through this Ropeway.
But now this inauguration has been under the scanner after the Ropeway is closed for maintenance.
Questioning the decision to close the Ropeway to the public four days after the inauguration, Sudhir Sharma said that the safety engineer had issued a previous warning but the company who carried out the Ropeway project ignored this warning.
He said that the Ropeway did not fit 100% for people transportation and had failed the safety test and this fact was hidden from the public.
He said that the company knew earlier that surgery must be deferred after the inauguration to improve the connection of the rope and important aspects of this stored as secret.
He said that only to take credit, the government inaugurated the Ropeway without seeing aspects of safety and risking the lives of those who use this Ropeway for transportation.
He said that in the MoU, there are conditions that the Ropeway will run with a capacity carrying 1,000 people in one hour in one direction but actually has a capacity of 650 people.
He said that the conditions of giving 75 percent of the work to the local community were also violated because outsiders were recruited in this project.
He said that even parking work had not started when taking off.
He said that violating important agreements, the company has been provided to access commercial areas for use.
