Guwahati: scattered by recent hostility on the border with Mizoram where six police officers were shot dead by Mizoram police, Assam CM Himanta Buswa Sarma had placed himself on a quick lane to complete all consecutive disputes above the constitutional limit.
Have with his neighbors in the region.
Manipur and Tripura restrictions, all other states – Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya – carved from Assam to become a full state at different time points have denied their respective boundaries with Assam.
After assuming the charge as chairman of the State Minister on May 10, Sarma registered all the border disputes as one of the top priorities.
Last month, the minister of the house of Union Amit Shah personally reminded Sarma of the delayed border disputes at a meeting with all major Northeast ministers in Umikalama in Meghalaya.
On Friday, after a useful meeting with Meghalaya Meghalaya Conrad Sangma to find a way to end the dispute between two countries, Sarma said the border problems were delayed for a long time with Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland needed a different approach.
“The problem is different.
With Arunachal and Nagaland, this problem is at the Supreme Court.
With Meghalaya and Mizoram, we have no litigation in the APEX court,” he said.
He added that in the case of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, it depends on the Supreme Court but in the case of Meghalaya and Mizoram, “where there is no litigation, it will be easy to solve problems through reciprocal negotiations”.
“But after all, Assam also relates to the Minister of Chief Arunachal Pradesh to see if we can go for solving outside the court,” Sarma added.
“The Asssam and Nagland government have agreed that this problem can be resolved in the Supreme Court.
So you must have various types of negotiations with each state.
There is no possibility of a general formula to settle border disputes with the four countries,” Sarma said.
“With Meghalaya, we have reached the CM level talk stage.
Hopefully with Arunachal Pradesh we can also come to the level of trust and confidence,” Sarma said.
In Nagaland, the ministerial head said the recent agreement was signed to maintain the status quo tightly.
On the other hand, Assam signed another agreement with Mizoram on Thursday to maintain peace along the boundary between countries and not to mobilize police forces and their respective forest staff near the disputed border, where neutral central styles would be deployed.
Sarma, who believes that border disputes have become development preventing for all countries, said Assam, Meghalaya and Pradesh Arunachal have many common problems such as taxation, trade.
“So this border dispute always affects our relationship.
We feel defects and because we have border disputes, we cannot be more productive, which will help the three countries,” he said.
