Guwahati: The Union Minister and former Head of Sarbanou Sonowal’s head on Tuesday submitted a nomination from the Sabha’s Rajya chair in Assam and was ready to be chosen without opponents after the opposition decided not to oppose the candidate.
The last date for the nomination of the archiving for Rajya Sabha’s poll is September 22 and the results will be stated in 4.
October accompanied by the Head of Himanta Buswa Sarma, BJP President Bhabesh Kalita and the Allied Leader of AGP and UPPL, Sonowal submitted his letters before returning the dulang officer Assam Assembly.
The chair of Rajya Sabha fell void after the speaker assembly Bisang Daimary resigned from the top home after the election to the assembly last April.
Sonowal was chosen for the Assembly of Majuli for the second period of time in a row in May this year.
The 59-year-old BJP leader was appointed in the Cabinet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July.
Sarma, thanking the opposition for not installing any candidates, said, “My warm greetings with the Union Minister of whom the vision and leadership we have obtained.
We hope that he will continue to raise Assam’s voices and northeast in front of the center.
“There are seven chairs of Rajya Sabha from Assam where six are currently occupied – two by BJP (Bhubaneswar Kalita and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa) and Congress (Ripun Bora and Ranee Naish), one by AGP (Birendra Prasad Baishya) and one by Ajit Independent Kumar Bhuyan.
