Gangtok: Three Hairns of soldiers were killed and three other soldiers were critically injured when a truck they traveled fell into the canyon in East Sikkim on Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place at 6 miles on Jalan Baru Jawahar Lal Nehru which connected Gangtok with Lake Tsomgo and Nathula near the Indian-Chinese border, said an officer.
Sixth Jawan from Kumaon Regiment traveled to Gangtok when the driver lost control of the truck and faddently 600 feet into the canyon, killing the driver and two other soldiers in that place, he said.
Rescue operations were carried out by the Army, Bro, police and locals in Medan who were not friendly in the midst of bad weather and the three victims were treated at the army hospital in Gangtok, from where they shifted to the medical company in West Bengal Siliguri, officers added.
