Guwahati: In an effort to prevent illegal activities allegedly carried out at the City Spa, Parror and Unisex Salon, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Sunday issued several strict guidelines, including prohibiting the therapy or cross-line massage and the procurement of trade licenses.
During the raid on various unisex spas and salons, the police in Guwahati had arrested several red-handed employees who allegedly indulge in prostitution.
Commissioner GMC Devasish Sharma said, “The rules have been set to prevent malpractice or illegal activities after receiving many complaints from civil society.
To get a trade license, the owner must comply with the guidelines.” GMC has also ordered that the main entrance of the home or salon must be transparent from now onwards.
According to new rules, there is no salon or living room that can have exclusive space or rooms in it.
There are nearly 300 spas, salons and unisex homes in the city.
With Spurt in the number of facilities in recent years, the incidents of illegal activities are also allegedly increasing in the city.
“Such activities have been considered to be detrimental to civil society and GMC bound to respect public morality and laws that regulate civil society,” Sharma said, adding that violations of guidelines would withdraw penalties or punishment.
In an attack carried out by the health branch and GMC enforcement on Wednesday, the Civic body sealed a salon in the Ulubari area in the city for violating rules and regulations.
The salon is running its business without a legitimate trade license.
