Mysuru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a shot in the arm when the first time the Corporator was in Sunani Palanethra became the city mayor after the collapse of the powerful Congress and the JD alliance on Wednesday.
In 64 members of MySuru City Corporation, BJP held 22 seats, 19 Congress, JD (S) 17, and one BSP, while there were five independent after disqualification of a board member.
The Alliance of Congress-JDS continues in the company here despite the collapse of the coalition government in the state in 2019 because of the disqualification of 17 Mola from two clothes.
However, the gap developed between the two in the corporation ahead of the election of the mayor.
Congress wants to involve his own candidate and reluctant to support JD (s), which eventually remains “neutral”, helps victory BJP Clinch.
While BJP jumped over Palanethra, Congress candidate was Shantha Kumari.
JD (s) stay away from the voting.
Palanethra secured 26 votes and candidates for Congress, 22 votes.
In election colleges, two BJP mlaz and parliamentarians from the city chose Palanethra.
Apart from them, an independent board member was studied to choose his favor, said the source.
Sunana Palanethra, a board member from Bangsal Number 59, will have a tenure of only six months, the source added.
“I am very happy with victory and I thank all the council members, representatives of selected and Mysuru people.
I will do everything for Mysuru progress,” said a Jubil reporter.
Minister of Main Basavaraj S Bommai, former Chairman of Minister B Yediyurappa, Mysore MP Pratap Sime, District Minister Somashekar and Mlaas S The Ramadas and Nagendra were among those who greeted Palanethra.
Welcoming the newly elected mayor, Bommai said, “After years of work hard, Mysuru had received the Mayor of BJP.
I congratulated Sunana Palanethra.
I greeted all members of the Board, MP, MLA, Mysuru In-Charge Minister S Somashekar.” In his tweet, Yediyurappa said, “BJP gets a Mayor’s post is a strong indication that the roots of the party spread.” Since Mysuru City became the corporation in 1983, no one from BJP was once the mayor.
