Bengaluru: A 16-year-old child led the volunteer team to raise funds to support the three primary health centers (PHCs) in the anecalion of Taluk with Covid-19 medical kit and oxygen concentrator worth Rs 3.3 lakh.
Aadiv Reki, a 11th grade student of Indus International School, took the project in a larger initiative – Project Breathe (Usiradu) – Launched by BELLANDUR Jotege, a charity Changemakers group.
Project Breathe is a group effort to ensure medical oxygen for covid patients in rural areas.
Spark for the project came after Aadiv, a Junior Jotegur Jotegur volunteer, shadowed the group’s work.
He realized that there was a need for medical kits in remote PHCs and country rural parts to overcome pandemics.
He then decided to send the oxygen concentrator and aid kit to a marginalized community in rural areas in the taluk anecalion – with a focus on the community around his school.
For this, he formed a team consisting of six (including himself), Roping in his classmates and work began in June.
They began with tasks such as mapping demand, collaborating with government health officials, raising funds through material donor campaigns and support.
“We regularly check the PhCs to understand what their needs and what the request is like,” he said, adding that the centers covered a population of around 30,000 estimated populations.
While Aadiung succeeded and led the project, his teammate Samarth Govil and Naren R gave fundraising support; Tharun V, Arnav N and Pooja P are helped by coordination with PHC.
The funds came from various sources and Aadiv also interacted with CSR donors, while the team also created a donation link in Milaap – which helped them with additional funds for transportation.
On Saturday, after more than a month of hard work, the team will submit a kit to PHC.
Kits include three oxygen concentrators worth Rs 55,000 to 60,000 (one for each phc), more than 200 kits PPE, credit oximeter, IR thermometer, o2 mask, n95 mask, face shield, word founder of Jotegur Bellandur, told toi that it was encouraging Empathy and aadiv commitment to the cause, and the spirit of collaboration in the way he made every member of the team engaged.
“He and his team about Jootegur Junior Volunteers Bellandur continue to make us and the community proud,” he said.
The 11th Grader said their work was prepared for the third possible wave.
“Our work does not end with this.
I will take this project further if the PHC requires more support,” he said.
