MySuru: Reports prepared by Greenpeace India claimed the level of air pollution in three major cities – MySuru, Bengaluru, and Mangaluru exceeded the parameters of the air quality of the World Health Organization (WHO).
This report is based on the data of the Central Pollution Control Agency (CPCB).
Speaking to Stoi, Indian campaign manager Greenpeace Avinash Chanchal said the report was prepared based on air quality data from 20, November 2020 to 20, November 2021, obtained from the official CPCB dashboard from the air control room for air quality management.
“In MySuru, PM 2.5 levels exceeded the WHO guidelines of four to five times while six to seven times more in Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
Likewise, PM levels in Bengaluru and Mangaluru exceeded the limit of three to four times when in Mysore were two to three More times more than the limits prescribed by whom, “he said.
“Qualitative and quantitative analysis is carried out using air quality standards prescribed as referred to as WHO and the quality of national ambient air (NAAQ),” he said.
According to the report, the main contributor to deteriorating air quality is the development of infrastructure, industry, transportation, waste burning, and construction activities that are fossil fuel.
“Long-term exposure to air pollution, even at low levels, shortens life and has serious implications for public health.
Thus, this city must take concrete steps to control air pollution and have deadlines to move towards WHO guidelines before it’s too late, “Avinash Chanchal said.
According to activists, the hour’s needs are more stringent measures to curb air pollution, especially pollution caused by vehicles and industries.
Treasurer Treasurer of the MySore Foundation Venkatesh Kharidi said after the first Covid-19 locking, air pollution increased in the city for various reasons.
“Industrial air pollution is now not checked because all permissions are issued online.
The old vehicle is also permitted without the right procedure.
Last year, because Covid-19, the number of puppies planted also greatly quote the scarcity of funds.
All of this contributes to the increase in air pollution, “He said.
