Udupi: Forest Minister Arvind Limbavali said that the department contemplates the installation of steel wire fences at the boundaries of forest in Karnataka, to prevent elephants and other wild animals deviate to agricultural land.
The minister spoke after participating in various programs in Brahmavara and Nalkuru in the Udupi district on Sundays.
He said the steel wire fence was a safe method adopted in Tamil Nadu, to prevent elephants from entering the village.
“We have tried many ways to prevent animals from getting lost to human habitats, from solar fences to the railroad fence, and even try the cable fence on the forest limits.
However, none of them turned out to be very effective.
Unfortunately, an elephant dies when trying crossed one of the cable fences.
Therefore, we have decided to adopt the Tamil Nadu fence model, using a strong cable, so that elephants and other animals do not enter the village.

The Minister launched an afforestation program to compensate for the number of trees cut down to four road lanings between Brahmavara and Seethanadi.
He said that it was obliged that at least 10 puppies must be planted for each tree cut down for any development work.
He insisted that the tree puppies had a bear must be planted, instead of planting commercial varieties, so that birds and animals get food.
“To prevent incidents of attacks by monkeys, we are looking for advice from many experts.
