Jorthat: Even though the state has taken the initiative to provide a smartphone to about eight students of class IX and X government schools throughout the state, all students of Assam (AASU) Unit Jorhat has distributed smartphones among students in need in class VII to XII on the day Saturday.
Finance Minister Assam Ajanta Neog, handling the state budget for 2021-22 in the Assembly on Friday, said the government had taken innovative steps to provide cellular devices to class IX and X students who were less able to reduce learning losses.
This scheme will benefit around eight lakh students, he said.
A day later, the Aasu District Unit Jorhat distributed smartphones to 20 students in the district.
All of these students have been seized to take online classes because of the lack of devices since the start of the class in online mode.
The economic conditions of parents of students are too poor to buy smartphones.
Of a total of 20 students, five are girls.
Eighteen of them studied in government schools and two studies in two private schools in Jorhat for free.
They are students of class VII, IX, X, XI and XII in eighteen different schools in Jorhat.
“We have distributed 20 smartphones to students at Jorhat Sonari Gaon, Macharhat, Koronga, Chinnamara, Parbotia, Rajabari, Sahpuria, and Tarajan located on the outskirts of Jorhat.
Academic careers of all these students are good but inappropriate facilities for learning.
We have been Choosing this disadvantaged student with a field survey through our regional units and has distributed cellphones, “said Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, President of the Jorhat Aasu unit.
Bordoloi added, “We have begun our initiative last month and has raised funds from several businessmen and government employees to fulfill our efforts.
Many people have supported us morally and also help financially to offer students who need this.”
