Guwahati: Justifying a series of meetings in Assam since he assumes the office, Minister of Himanta Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma on Monday confirms that the shooting of the villain “must be a pattern” if they try to escape the detention or seize weapons from the police to open.
The increasing number of meetings, who had seen at least a dozen suspected guerrillas and criminals were shot dead when they “tried to escape” from detention, have realized political skills in Assam.
“If a accused of trying to grab the service gun and run away, or even run away, and on it, say, a rapist, the law allows shooting to someone like that at the foot, but not on the chest,” Sarma said at the first face-to-face meeting with responsible officers (OCS) from all Assam police stations.
“When someone asked me whether the shooting incident became a pattern in the state, I replied that (shooting) must be a pattern if involving criminals who tried to escape the police detention,” he said.
Sarma, who also holds a home portfolio, the word law has allowed the police to shoot accused or criminals if they open fire first or try to escape.
“But before doing the law what we have permitted, we must keep our conscience clear that our work is for the kindness of the people and does not present our own interests,” CM said.
Under the normal procedure, the defendant will be excluded and punished, he said, adding, but if someone tried to escape, “We will take a zero tolerance approach”.
“The police have no authority for the meeting.
In democracy, crime is fought through law and does not meet.
This only happens when there is no other way,” he told reporters.
At least 12 alleged militants and criminals have been shot dead in the state since May as they are rumored to try to escape detainees, while some others, including rape accused and smugglers of livestock, injured.
The opposition, reacted to the incident, alleged that the police Assam had changed “happy triggers” under the Himanta LED regime Buswa Sarma.
However, the state police denied the allegations, claiming that criminals forced his personnel to shoot.
