Dibrugarh: Regional Medical Research Center for the northeastern region (ICMR-RMRC, Dibrugarh) in Lahowal stated that there were no cases of Delta Variant Plus Covid-19 had been detected in the country.
The Delta Plus variant is a mutated form of the Delta variant of Coronavirus, who was first discovered in India.
Delta Plus variant, which spread faster than the previous known variant, is currently present in 12 countries.
Until now, 48 cases of Delta Plus variants have been found in India.
Nodal Officer and ICMR-RMRC scientist, Dr.
Bisjectyoti Borkakoty, on Wednesday said that all samples tested at the Viral Institute (VRDL) Research and Diagnostic Diagnostic Laboratory have returned negative results in Delta Plus tensions.
In July last year, a team led by Dr.
Borkakoty managed to isolate the Covid-19 virus (SARS-COV-2) and by doing it, ICMR-RMRC has become the third and fourth government laboratory in the country to achieve that achievement.
“In the last ten days, we have filtered more than 110 samples in our lab, but not one Delta Plus variant has been found.
We only get a Delta variant and some cases of Kappa variants.
Delta Plus variants are very localized in this country and less than 50 cases has been detected.
In some states such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and even Jammu & Kashmir, Delta Plus cases have been found.
In February and March, the Alfa variant circulated in Assam.
Then from April, it is a Delta variant and Kappa, “said Dr.
Borkakoty.
Dr.
Borkakoty further added that there was a need for a vaccine company to come up with a new vaccine to overcome the new Covid-19 variant.
“There is a need to change vaccines.
Vaccines were developed last year when strains were different.
The companies that make vaccines must immediately change their policies and develop vaccines that will work better towards Alpha, Kappa and Delta variants,” he said.
