Guwahati: When there was a broad criticism of the police incident opening fire on criminals while trying to escape from detention by opposition parties in Assam, three violators were shot by men in uniform in two separate incidents when they tried to escape.
In the first incident, two suspected marijuana smugglers were shot by the police when they tried to escape in Srirampur on Friday night.
SP (Kokrajhar) Prateek Thube said based on intelligence input, a truck was intercepted in Srirampur and after a thorough check, around 840 kg of marijuana worth Rs 2 Crore recovered from the hidden compartment.
“While recovering 10 kg of marijuana, which was hidden by the defendant along the highway, the two defendants attacked police personnel & tried to escape.
To stop them, the police team was forced to control the shot where the two defendants were injured,” SP added.
Others Jehirul Islam, who allegedly kidnapped a woman and her baby on June 22, was injured in shooting the police on Friday night at Tamulpur in the Beacan District.
The police save the mother-child duo on Friday night from Kishanganj at Bihar with the help of police Bihar.
“Jahirul was arrested on Thursday from Guwahati.
He was taken to the crime scene when he tried to escape from detention by taking a police weapon and shot at the foot,” said a police officer, added that he was undergoing treatment at GMC.
Congress, AJP and Akhil Gogoi-LED Raijor Dal have fallen a lot to the main Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma to justify the police strategy to shoot criminals or accuse those who attack or escape from detention.
Sarma, during the first officer conference in charge here on July 5, said there must be zero tolerance to the accused / criminals.
“Since June 22, there have been more than 12 police incidents that shoot accused / criminals.
These are signs of our country to move towards the Dictator regime.
Today they opened fire on charges but what collateral would not shoot political opponents in the future?” Akhil asking.
At least 12 alleged rebels and criminals have been killed and dozens, including rape accused and livestock smugglers, injured at a police meeting in Assam since the government led by BJP.
