Bengaluru: Promoting flights from Bengaluru to Kolkata without warning in front of the Bengaluru couple who have ordered tickets proved expensive for airlines and online travel companies.
The Consumer Court has ordered them to pay compensation of Rs 20,000 to a partner, which eventually lost their flight.
In early 2015, the residents of Hulimavu Kailash Narayanan, 37, and his wife Usha Radhakrishnan, 33, decided to vacation in Bangkok and approached the Bengaluru Macitorna office, whose representatives recommended them fly through Kolkata to Bangkok.
After the couple agreed to the idea, tickets were booked for the night of January 24, 2015 about Indigo flights to Kolkata, and from there the connected flight was booked to Thailand.
But a lot for chagrin couples, on the morning the trip date, Kailash happened to pay attention online that flights from Bengaluru had advanced a few hours and there was no information delivered to them even though they had given their contact number at the booking ticket.
Bengalureans rushed to the city airport in a desperate attempt to capture indigo advanced flights but miss it.
Despite urging land staff, they were only provided alternative flights on January 26, 2015 and were forced to stay at the airport for a longer period.
The couple reached Bangkok two days later and skipped several reservations and hotels.
They returned home and contacted Makemytrip just to be told that the airline had tried to reach their contact number to tell them about changes, but their phone was turned off.
Without a positive response from the travel portal or Indigo, the couple approached Bangalore IVTH district district mention the recovery commission in Shantinagar on September 16, 2016 with complaints against MakeMytrip India Pvt Ltd and Indigo.
The couple’s lawyer presented their case, while portal lawyers stated that the cellphone number provided by the customer was turned off when they made several attempts to notify the partner about changing flight time.
Indigo’s lawyer also retains passengers who are inaccessible, but add emails about changes sent to the Makytrip who have booked tickets.
In litigation last for four years and nine months, forum judges dropped a lot on the portal and airline.
They noted that even though there were airlines who told the company about that change, Makemytrip did not bother reminding passengers.
Meanwhile, Indigo claims tickets on alternative flights were given to pairs that were free of charge, but failed to convince the court about the reason for advancing flights, which caused severe discomfort on Bengaluru leaflets.
In his decision on June 21, 2021, the court decided that Makemytrip and Indigo had to jointly pay Rs 15,000 to mental abuse and discomfort caused by the complainant and additional Rs 5,000 on their court costs, all within 45 days.
