Shillong: At least two people, including a woman, was injured in an improvised explosive explosion (IED) with a militant, who went to the back of the busy market in the state capital here, police said.
In an email to the news organization, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council which was prohibited had claimed responsibility for the explosion above the celebration of independence day.
A shopkeeper, Christine Nongkynrih, a person who was opposed to those who could not be identified immediately hurt in the explosion and was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion was strong enough to cause vibration in the nearest buildings and had caused temporary traffic congestion in the area.
“During the initial investigation, it was confirmed that the explosion was caused by IED.
Ied stabbed the wall wall and destroyed several window windows of the adjacent building,” said Nongtynger Khasi East Khasi SP Nongtynger to PTI.
He said a case was registered at the Laitumkhrah police station and investigation was in an IED explosion that could be heard from the new Shillong City.
Nongtynger rushed to a place along with a bomb team and other state institution officials and the central government to take stock situations.
SP urges residents not to panic but report to the police every appearance of goods left or suspected.
Local Mla Ampareen Lyngdoh also rushes to a place to make sure the people in the area will be taken to ensure their security.
HNLC Secretary General Sainkupar Nongtraw expressed regret that a woman was injured in the incident even though the bomb was placed from a crowded area.
The clothing warned that it would plant a bigger bomb targeting ‘outsiders’ and urging countries not to participate in the celebration of independence day on Sunday.
Last month, the clothes had carried out another IED attack near the Quarters of the Reserve Police in the East Jaintia Hills district.
Earlier this year, HNLC has also carried out attacks in the cement plant in the district.
Three people have been arrested later with respect to the explosion.
