Bengaluru: Voting is underway for the corporate general elections of the city of Besegiavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalaburagi, along with Bypolls to several other urban local agencies, said polls on Friday.
The selection was held strictly to hold fast to the protocols and guidelines of Covid-19, they said.
Voting starts at 7 am to 252 wards on seven local urban bodies and they include City Corporations of Belagavi (58 ward), Hubballi-Dharwad (82), Kalaburagi (55), along with Doddaballapur City Municipal Board (31), City of the Council of the Council (23), Bidar City Council (2) and Bhadravathi City Council (1).
Also, 21 wards from various urban local agencies have fallen for various reasons for the current Bypoll.
The poll will expire at 5 pm on Friday, while the vote count will take place on September 6.
There were a total of 1,318 candidates in Fray from various political parties for 252 wards at seven city bodies, while 59 candidates were in Fray for 21 wards who went to Bypolls.
According to the Commission, there were more than 14.01 voters who met the Lakh requirements in 252 wards, with the highest creature in Hubballi-Dharwad – 8.11 lakh.
The selection was held as a term some of this local body was over and because of the high court order, the Commission had said.
