Covid samples can be taken from toothbrushes: PGI studies

Chandigarh: Toothbrush can offer alternative and more convenient ways to collect samples for covid tests.
It comes as good news like most people, especially children, find it difficult to take Utip from the nose and throat.
PGI doctors feel that this alternative sample collection method can even be used by people who are not health experts.
A PGI study, which was recently published, found that a toothbrush sample could be used as an alternative sampling methodology for patients with nasopharyngeal sampling unacceptable.
“Not only sampling toothbrushes – saving costs and is not painful but also is the modality that can be collected itself, which does not require technical skills or mandates to follow special instructions in patient parts,” said this study.
However, further research with a larger sample with a larger sample.
Size is required for methodology to have more than 60% sensitivity.
“We need to expand the sample size.
This study is ongoing to make it standard for sample collection,” said Prof.
Krishan Gauba, head of the Oral Health Sciences Center, PGI.
This study is based on the fact that during toothbrushes, oral fluids such as saliva and crevicular gingival liquid, along with dental plaque find their way deep into brush feathers.
When Viral SARS-COV-2 RNA has been detected in all three, it makes sense to conclude that the toothbrush can also save it.
The study was conducted by oral health science centers in collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Virology, PGI on 25 symptomatic patients.
The patient’s age is two to 72 years.
A soft toothbrush with round fur and flexible neck is given to the participants, who are asked to brush their teeth in the usual way.
