Guwahati: LargeScale protest in the Regency by Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA), a leading body of a doctor, leads to total disruption of health care services in the Hospital Outpatient Department (OPD) on Monday.
Hundreds of OPD was closed during the main hour between 8am and 13:30, marking the beginning of the three-day boy boycott program by AMSA for non-fulfillment of their demands, including promotional time scale for doctors and regularization of Senior PG salaries.
They said their demands had never been heard after several rounds of meetings with the State Health Department so they decided to intensify their protest.
The boycott program is being supported by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
“Discrimination against senior doctors cannot be tolerated.
We have increased the problem of Junior Doctors get more salaries than PG doctors or specialists since 2013.
But the inability of the state government to solve this problem has forced us to take extreme steps,” said Secretary General Amsa, to Ti.
In the morning when thousands of patients were rejected care and there was chaos at the hospital, the principal Secretary of the State Health Department, Anurag Goel, called AMSA asking them to attract their attacks.
Talukdar said a virtual executive body meeting is expected to be held on Monday night to discuss this issue.
“The main secretary assures us that the government is committed to finding a solution to our demands,” he said.
Talukdar informed that no decision was taken until the submission of this report to attract the OPD Boyot program.
AMSA emphasized that after serving in the position of Joint Director and Medical Officers Sub-Division for more than 10 years, many senior doctors have not been promoted.
Previously, on October 19, the OPD Bocott call provided by AMSA is very concerned about health services in government hospitals.
Then at night, the Minister of Health of Keshab Mahanta invited the body of a doctor for talks but the deadlock survived.
AMSA Ruped that the minutes of the October 19 meeting did not clearly mention all the time frames to overcome the demands and this caused agitation.
