Guwahati: The third wave of Covid is expected to peak in Assam in the last week of January, the internal assessment by the top official from the State Health Department has revealed.
While everyday cases cross 6,000 marks in the state on Monday, sources at the State Health Department say according to the assessment, every day 12,000 to 15,000 cases can be reported during this time in the state.
“Surge in Covid’s case is very high and will continue to increase.
Simultaneously, densely populated districts in Assam above, north and south remain equally vulnerable,” said the source.
Health experts here said the trend in the case of Covid showed that Assam was heading for the third wave immediately but it might not be too long.
“From February itself, a decreased trend must start from Assam,” added the source.
During the peak of the second wave in the state in May-End last year, more than 6,000 cases were reported every day.
When the second wave touched its peak, 92 of the highest death was reported twice on May 17 and May 25.
Although high death is not possible because of the slight severity of the disease this time, health officials say that cumulative cases are set to immediately double.
“The level of participants will continue to surge more than 10%,” said an official.
It took almost two months in the second wave before the daily case number was under 1,000.
“If the third wave extends, even the bohag bihu in mid-April may have to be celebrated with the limit.
However, remembering fewer severity, in March we have to lame back to normal,” the official added.
The Director of Medical Education, Assam, Dr.
Anup Kumar Barman, said there were a large number of covid asymptomatic patients in the state and if the number of tests was accelerated, the cumulative number of cases would also rise.
“Random Covid tests mostly explore positive cases in Assam.
Tracking comprehensive contacts of asymptomatic cases will expand the definite level of progress,” he added.
Barman acknowledged that densely populated districts such as Tinsukia and Sonitpur would show an increase in the number of cases.
“The trend of wise rise in the district in this case is similar to the second wave,” he said.
Even when Kaseload in Kamrup (Metro) regency is much higher than other districts where viruses spread in faster communities, Cachar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia Regency and Kamrup remain under the Radar Department of Health.
If a positive case in the last 10 days is calculated (January 8-17), Kamrup (Metro) has 8,992 cases, followed by Cachar (2,018), Jorthat (1,788), Dibrugarh (1,337), Tinsukia (1.308)).
